Light in Trees

One enormous benefit of Lockdown has been to re-awaken our interdependency with the landscape:  the natural world cherishes our mental and spiritual wellbeing. Long hours spent working in front of LED screens has driven many out of doors, seeking solace in nature, in the microcosm of light playing through leaves and branches deep in a wood.

The Japanese have a term for light streaming through trees – Koromobei, which for some people can instil a sense of ecstasy, there is no equivalent term in the English language.

Nevertheless there is magical quality be found in woods with the light effects a low sun, the fragile translucency of back lit leaves have equal or more visual impact as the solid tree trunks and branches. The enjoyment found in experiencing these qualities of light can be very deep.
